Fresh China Lotus Root (Akar Teratai) is a highly esteemed aquatic rhizome in East and Southeast Asian cuisine, famous for its distinct wheel-like cross-section, refreshing sweetness, and dual ability to stay crunchy in stir-fries or become starchy and tender in slow-simmered soups.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: Large, cylindrical sausage-like link segments measuring 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm) in length and 2 to 3 inches in diameter.

• Skin & Surface: Smooth, thin, buff-to-pale-buff skin with occasional natural spots, requiring light peeling before preparation.

• Flesh & Core: Dense, crisp, ivory-white flesh characterized by a symmetrical pattern of hollow air channels running longitudinally through the core.

• Texture: Remarkably crisp, watery, and crunchy when raw or flash-cooked, transforming into a dense, starchy, and tender bite when braised or boiled long.

Taste and Culinary Uses

• Flavor: Mildly sweet, clean, and nutty with a subtle earthy undertone that pairs beautifully with rich broths, savory pork, and sweet-and-sour glazes.

• Culinary Applications: A classic staple for traditional Chinese tonic soups, hotpots, stir-fries, stuffed appetizers, and crunchy deep-fried chips.

Growth and Origin

• Native Habitat: Native to tropical and temperate Asia, widely cultivated across flooded muddy ponds and lake beds throughout China.

• Cultivation & Sourcing: Harvested by hand from rich underwater silt beds during autumn and winter, washed, and packed carefully under controlled moisture and temperature conditions to prevent oxidation and ensure peak crispness.

For any cancellation of your order, you shall be responsible for the payment of an administrative charge, which shall be determined by us prior to your cancellation. Notwithstanding anything stated to the contrary, no cancellation or reschedule delivery will be entertained once your orders have been shipped to your shipping address.
