Description

Organic Japanese Cucumber (also known as Kyuri) is a premium, slender cucumber variety, prized for its paper-thin edible skin, virtually seedless core, and crisp, sweet flesh.

Physical Characteristics

Size: Slender and elongated, typically growing 7 to 9 inches (18 to 23 cm) long with a uniform, narrow diameter.
Skin & Flesh: Dark forest-green skin with subtle ribbed ridges and tiny, soft raised bumps; pale translucent-green interior flesh.
Seeds: Undeveloped, tiny central seeds that eliminate the need for scooping or seeding.
Texture: Remarkably crisp and firm with a satisfying, dense snap and lower water content than standard slicing cucumbers.

Taste and Culinary Uses

Flavor: Light, clean, and refreshing with a mild melon-like sweetness—devoid of any harsh or bitter aftertaste.
Culinary Applications: Essential in Japanese and Asian cuisine for quick pickles (sunomono), sushi rolls, chilled noodle toppings, and fresh salads.
Preparation Methods: No peeling or seeding required; ideal sliced thinly for salad overlays, smashed for Asian garlic-chili oil pickles, or julienned for cold noodle dishes.

Growth and Origin

Native Habitat: Native to East Asia and widely cultivated throughout Japan and Southeast Asia.
Cultivation: Grown under organic farming practices without synthetic pesticides or wax coatings. Harvested young while slender to ensure optimal crispness and peak sweetness.
